Netherlands: Turning cracked Honey tomatoes into ketchup

At the Fruit Logistica, Looye Kwekers presented its Honey tomato ketchup. The ketchup is made from cracked Honey tomatoes (Gautier's Piccolo variety), which would be thrown out otherwise. Besides, because of its natural method of preparation, the ketchup does not contain flavour enhancers or E number additives.

“During the production process of our tomatoes, some fruits do not meet our high quality requirements as regards appearance, but they taste wonderful,” explains Arja Hilberdink, general manager of Looye. “By turning these tomatoes into ketchup, we still manage to give our tomatoes a meaningful destination.”

In the past year, Looye developed the ketchup based on two important principles: a unique flavour and a natural method of preparation. This has led to a flavourful ketchup without the addition of sugar in a stylish packaging. After Looye revealed the new corporate identity at the Fruit Logistica last year, they used the international trade fair to present the ketchup to the world this year. They naturally offer interested parties the opportunity of tasting the ketchup, pure or as part of a snack. Looye focuses on launching the Honey tomato ketchup through specialist greengrocer’s shops in April 2017.
