US (NJ): High tunnel constructed on urban site in East Orange

Rutgers University, a TunnelBerries partner institution, collaborated this past fall with the New Jersey Farm Bureau to complete construction on a YMCA-operated high tunnel situated on an abandoned housing lot in East Orange, NJ.

The construction crew included several military veterans that are enrolled in a work training program organized by Rutgers Cooperative Extension. The high tunnel is part of a community garden project and will be used as an outreach tool to educate and train local youth and adults in urban agriculture. Partial funding for this project was received from a USDA block grant.
