Mismatched words and images: iceberg lettuce or red wine in the streets?

A picture is worth a thousand words, as the saying goes. But that it can be misinterpreted is also a possibility, as evidenced by a recently published article in Spanish media. Pictured is iceberg lettuce being thrown from a lorry. A box even flies through the air at the top of the picture. The message quickly went viral on Facebook, but when you follow the link, you will reach an article that is hardly about fruit and vegetables, let alone iceberg lettuce.

According to the article, lorries carrying Spanish wine were attacked on the French border last week. It was reported that a lorry driver was approached by members of French action committee CAV. The shipment of 25,400 litres of red wine was destroyed. The driver filed a complaint with the French authorities, and the Spanish government also raised the alarm. It would not have been the first time that lorries carrying wine were attacked.

The only link to fruit and vegetables in the article is a warning of the Spanish authorities. Considering the attacks took place early in the export season, the fear exists that French anger will also turn on fresh produce. In the past, Spanish lorries carrying fruit and vegetables have been attacked, but that is not yet the case at this time.
