Fresh Air Farmer vlog visits Beverly Greenhouses:

Canada: Greenhouses are not just simple factories

Southern Ontario agriculture enthusiast Andrew Campbell has the intention to visit 52 farms in 52 weeks this year. This all with the purpose to create awareness on sustainable farming practices and show consumers what it takes to grow and raise food on a farm.

Last week, Andrew visited the third farm; Beverly Greenhouses of Dale and Jan VanderHout in Brantford, Ontario. Jan VanderHout gave him a tour and showed how they grow 12 million cucumbers per year on their 22 acre greenhouse farm.

VanderHout explained how they grow their own transplants in a two acre propagation greenhouse and what it all takes to grow a quality crop throughout the year. Campbell got to see that greenhouses are not just cucumber producing factories, but that it can be compared to real agriculture, very much influenced by outdoor weather conditions.

As well as this, the farm vlogger got to see the packing area, where the crew of Beverly Greenhouses grades and prepares up to 1600 boxes per hour, ready for shipping to local supermarkets and U.S. grocery stores.
