ErfGoed presents total cultivation floor concept at IPM

ErfGoed is familiar to the market because of the cultivation floors that the company installs both in the Netherlands and abroad. At the IPM fair later this month, however, the company will be presenting a 'total concept’. In the words of managing director Hugo Paans, that shift is inextricably linked with the high quality standards that the Moerkapelle-based company attaches to how its cultivation floors work: “If you are going to install the perfect cultivation floor, one of the things you need to take into account is that the water supply and drainage can cope with the demands made on it. Otherwise you will not be making optimum use of the possibilities that a cultivation floor of this type can offer you. That is why we have opted for a total concept, allowing users to have the confidence that they are getting the best out of our cultivation floor and that they can grow their crops without a care in the world.”

As Paans says, problems can arise when different products are linked together. “Not least where piping and irrigation are concerned. For example, if the system capacity is too low it will have an adverse effect on the function of the ebb-and-flow system. And that is crucial for growing a good crop. Where our floors stand out from the competition is in the uniform irrigation, which means that losses for the grower are kept to an absolute minimum, and the crop is robust and uniform. But for that to be the case, the system has to work well as an integral unit. By taking responsibility for the irrigation system as a whole, we are thus able to offer an integral solution.”

Suitability for vehicles and cleaning
In addition to this development, ErfGoed has, in the past year, also expanded the options for internal logistics, including development of a multi-functional rail system. And it has added a special sweep and vacuum cleaner to its range. As Paans says, “We had been thinking about this for some time, but until now there was nothing on the market that met our requirements. This machine has been specially developed for the ErfGoedFloor and is particularly suited to sweeping up and cleaning away dirt and particulate matter. Very useful for keeping the cultivation floor clean and in working order.”

The next step, according to Paans, is to develop a tool that shows how wet or dry the cultivation floor is. “Nowadays, just about everything in the glasshouse can be measured, except the place where the action takes place: the floor itself. But that is actually the only surface with which the plant comes into contact. So it's pretty important!”
