Camila Fresh reporting low prices for Sinaloan jalapenos

Healthy supply of Sinaloan jalapenos
In Sinaloa, Mexico, the availability of peppers is looking good this year. “It’s been strong since the season started and it’s going to stay strong. And prices have gone down—they are around $8-$9,” says Victor Guerrero of McAllen, TX-based Camila Fresh. “The region of Sihaloa is a very large supplier of peppers and their season goes from early December to early March. They’ve got lots of growing areas and lots of peppers.”

That said, demand for the spicy vegetable is low according to Guerrero. “While supply is around the same as last year, price is going down because the demand isn’t very good. It’s been low all year around. I have no idea why that is and that’s on all the products. It’s been a very tough year.”

January turnaround likely
That said, Guerrero anticipates demand to pick up by the second week of January. “People have stopped buying right now and I don’t know if it’s the weather or the holiday but it should pick up around then,” he says. The peppers this year are at a good size and quality but he goes on to mention that in January that could all change. “In January, the quality starts going down so we have to be very aware of that.”
