The centres that Syngenta has in Spain will not cut any jobs following the purchase of the company by ChemChina. This has been pointed out by the general manager of Syngenta in Europe, Alexandra Brand, who assured that the company will continue to grow in Spain in both its production plants and research centres.
Brand made these statements in a meeting with the press, held during her visit to Madrid.
One of the first horticultural seed research complexes in Spain is the "Rafael Cantón" centre, which Syngenta has in the municipality of El Ejido, in the province of Almeria. The Swiss multinational has another research centre in Torre Pacheco, Murcia, a central office in Madrid, offices in Almeria and Seville, a seed production plant in Seville, a phytosanitary product manufacturing plant in Porriño, Pontevedra, and a seed storage facility in La Mojonera, Almeria. In total, according to data supplied by the company itself, there are 500 employees distributed among all the centres mentioned who will not lose their jobs, according to the announcement made by Alexandra Brand.
In her meeting with the press, Brand assured that "Syngenta will continue to be the same company after this operation, because we have not merged as other companies in the sector have done. ChemChina is now the new owner of Syngenta, but our business is not going to integrate with those of other firms," not even with Adama, the company owned by ChemChina devoted to the manufacture of pesticides, which will continue its activities separately.
