Auke Smit will be the new General Manager for grower’s association Prominent from 1 December 2016, and by doing so, he will succeed Arne van Aalst.
Auke Smit has worked for various companies, especially in the Broadcast and Telecom sector. From 2012 he was employed by Greenco in Honseleresdijk, the Netherlands, where he had the function of CEO/CFO and the overall management, and where he was also responsible for the financial activities of Greenco.
As for the reason for the change from Greenco to Prominent, Smit indicates that the strategic ambitions of Prominent as vine tomato specialist are well-suited to his vision for the fresh produce chain. “Prominent is a leading player on the vine tomato market. However, the chain and the playing field are quickly changing. Prominent sees these changes, and wants to anticipate them. I would like, with the board of directors , employees and cultivators, to further expand the existing and strong organisation, on a strategic level as well, and enter into further cooperations within the fresh produce sector.”
