November 3, Fort Stockton

US (TX): Pesticide management workshop at Texas A&M

The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will conduct a pesticide management and continuing education unit workshop beginning at 8 a.m. Nov. 3 at the Pecos County Civic Center, 1674 Airport Drive in Fort Stockton.

David Disselhorst, AgriLife Extension agent in Pecos County, said the workshop will offer five Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units – one general, one integrated pest management, one structural, and two laws and regulations – for current commercial, noncommercial and private applicators.

“There are a couple points to remember,” Disselhorst said. “The first being that private applicator license candidates must purchase a Private Applicator Certification Package available through any AgriLife Extension office before the meeting date, as they must have them in hand at the time of training.

“The second point is that the Texas Department of Agriculture no longer gives written paper tests, so candidates will have to contact one of the contracted computer centers in order to test for their license.”

Individual registration is $20. Disselhorst said preregistration is not required but would be appreciated. For more information and to preregister, contact Disselhorst at 432-336-2541, David.Lisselhorst@ag.tamu.edu.

Topics and speakers will include:
  • 2017 Pesticide Laws and Regulations Update; Pesticide Applicator Licensing/Recordkeeping; New Provisions; Steve Boston, Texas Department of Agriculture assistant regional director, Lubbock.
  • Pest Control Around the Home and Barn; Controlling Pests in Cattle, Sheep and Goats; Dr. Charles Allen, AgriLife Extension entomologist, San Angelo.
  • General Herbicide Update on Mesquite, Prickly Pear; Fence-line Management with Range and Pasture Approved and Recommended Herbicide Use; Dr. Morgan Russell, AgriLife Extension range specialist, San Angelo.
