New CABI book on post harvesting now available

CABI has published a new, completely updated edition of the broad-based introductory level textbook ‘Postharvest: An Introduction to the physiology and handling of fruit and vegetables’ by Ron Wills and John Golding. The book covers the key postharvest concepts and technologies including handling, packaging, transport, temperature management and the control of pests and diseases. The content has been revised to reflect up-to-date information on the key issues of effective postharvest handling.

Several aspects are new to the sixth edition. Greater consideration has been given to pre-harvest factors that influence quality. Information about the health benefits of plant antioxidant properties and a discussion of superfoods has also been added. Sustainability is covered both in terms of energy used by technologies and non-synthetic disease and pest control systems. Discussion on issues important to consumers and the impact of trends in convenience marketing on the quality of fresh-cut produce has also been included.

The new edition is an invaluable resource for students of horticulture, plant physiology and food science, and industry personnel involved with the transportation, warehousing, marketing and retailing of fresh produce.

A copy of the book can be purchased online from the CABI Bookshop: http://www.cabi.org/bookshop/book/9781786391483
