Looking back on 1.5 years of Ridder Climate Screens

About eighteen months ago, Ridder Climate Screens was launched at a time that trends in screens became more and more apparent. Cloths which made it possible to save more energy and let more light in when the plant needs it. We spoke to Mario Scherpenzeel, Business Unit Manager at Ridder Climate Screens.

Significant investments
We find Mario Scherpenzeel in the large factory in Maasdijk where he is busy giving instructions to staff. Mario: "We’ve made great strides in the last year. Since 2015, we have been able to manufacture tailor-made parts for each project, in order to facilitate the installers. We have also set up a big laboratory in Maasdijk so we can test all our canvases for stability and durability under different UV, moisture and temperature conditions, so we can guarantee the quality our customers want."

In demand
Mario: "We’re in high demand among growers. They are the ultimate end users, but screen installers are our direct customers. It's good to talk to the grower or the advisor to ensure the right choice of fabric. Many factors play a part. But we also talk to our customers about the current situation. A hot topic at the moment is using assimilation lighting during the dark period to reduce light emissions."

Trusted by big names
"And that it is valued in the market is evident from the attention for our screens and the many projects we’re working on. We’ve scored assignments from a number of plant nurseries. Think of big names like Van der Lugt, Van der Klugt, Leo Ammerlaan and WPK. We currently produce for AgroCare-Kesgrow, Van Adrichem, Leo Hoogweg, Van Gog, Raijmakers, Lans Zeeland, Rainbow, Gubbels Siberie, Van Gennip, Vereijken and Moors Someren."

Treading carefully abroad
Mario: "We are well on our way way to becoming a household cloth supplier. Our customer focus, quality and delivery from stock are big pluses. And we have great plans for the upcoming years. Among other things, we’re slowly expanding across the border. Many of our own Dutch screen installers are already taking our screens abroad, so we’re already doing projects in Canada, Poland, England, France, Belgium and Spain. And we're also in talks with other countries. But we want to stick to our way of doing business, while every country requires a different approach. That’s why we are treading carefully."
