Mexico’s growing tomato export demanding more sustainanle practices

Biobest´s MExican partner IMEX recently exhibited at the International Tomato Congress at San Luis Potosí. Held in July at the Centro de Convenciones de San Luis Potosí, the event attracts over 600 visitors annually.

“Mexico has become the world’s largest fresh tomato exporter,” says Beatriz Contreras of IMEX. “Specifically targeting this sector, this year’s congress focused on strategies to improve production efficiencies while building for sustainable growth. As such there was plenty of interest in the IMEX exhibit highlighting, in particular, the products produced in our partnership with BIOBEST: bumblebee hives, providing innovative pollination strategies, and an extensive range of beneficial insects helping overcome pest challenges while reducing reliance on conventional chemicals.”

“The congress provided a welcome opportunity to meet with our growing customer base, while providing a platform to highlight our innovative products and technical expertise to existing and potential new customers,” says Beatriz. “Feedback was very positive”.

Situated in Mexico’s central region, also known as El Bajio, the area around San Luis Potosi boasts the country’s largest number of high-tech greenhouse operations. Tomato growing in this region has seen phenomenal growth in recent years – a trend that looks set to continue in the future with press reports predicting projected growth of 20% in the next year.
