"The state of Hidalgo is one of the 5 most underdeveloped and poorest states of our country, yet it is very good to see that the small community of farmers and growers is willing to change this by increasing their production efficiency", said Edgar.

He explained that while most of the growers produce open field crops like maize, pumpkins and strawberries, a small, but growing group of growers is also very successful with greenhouse production of Saladette tomatoes.

"They often have small production areas since the communities live between the mountains. Most of the low tech greenhouses are about 1,000 to 3,000 square meters and used to grow Saladette tomatoes for the production of sauces. Some of the growers have automated irrigation and automated vents, but a lot of improvement can still be made."

For this reason the event was organized for the fourth time by a local engineer, Mr. Pasiano. During the event the growers could see trials with new varieties from Dutch breeders. As well as this there were several seminars, lectures and exhibits. "We explained to the growers the advantages of Sudlac shading paints, our substrates and Koppert biological crop protection. Special attention was paid to pollination with the help of bumblebees, which is really taking off in this area right now."
