US: Tour de Fresh raises more than $4,000 during United Fresh

As the 2016 Tour de Fresh approaches in four short weeks, riders are in the final leg of fundraising to place 60+ salad bars in schools across the country. To encourage additional fundraising efforts, California Giant Berry Foundation hosted a stationary bike ride and photo opportunity at United Fresh with the goal of earning an additional $2,500 toward the cause. Sponsors, riders, and tradeshow attendees rallied behind the effort by bringing industry colleagues and partners to participate, resulting in $4,115 raised to support Tour de Fresh.

“We’re thrilled to have exceeded our goal during United Fresh, thanks to the support of the industry,” said Cindy Jewell, vice president of marketing for California Giant Berry Farms. “It was inspiring to see people take a moment out of their time on the show floor to rally behind our volunteer riders in support of getting more fresh produce in schools.”

Tour de Fresh rider Adam Linder of CHEP was nominated to ride the booth’s bike for his entire team, while sharing his experience about training for the ride in July. “I’m confident that we’ll meet our goals this year,” shared Linder. “We have a history of stepping up as an industry to exceed expectations, and this is no exception as made clear by our ability to earn almost double our goal of $2,500 during United Fresh.”

To date, this year’s Tour de Fresh has raised a total of $64,569, with the goal of reaching $175,000+ by July 26, 2016. In order to continue the fundraising momentum and reach its goals, Tour de Fresh and its sponsors encourage industry members to get involved by making donations and sharing on social media to support individual riders and the schools that will benefit from their participation in the event.
