AmazonFresh to bring grocery delivery to Australia

Global e-commerce giant Amazon is reportedly planning to enter the rabid grocery wars between Coles, Woolworths and Aldi by launching its “AmazonFresh” home delivery service in Australia. Tesco confirms sales of Kipa and Giraffe
Tesco today confirmed the proposed sale of its 95.5% controlling stake in the Kipa business in Turkey to Migros. Germany: Metro Group testing Starship robots

A Metro store in Dusseldorf has been trialling the use of the robots to assist customers round the store, allowing them to concentrate on 'hands free' shopping. These autonomous robots are also being trialled as a method of delivering online groceries to shoppers. Target charges suppliers more for slow-moving items
U.S retailer Target Corp is asking many suppliers to take on up to an extra 3-5 percent of the cost of promotions and price cuts after slow sales so far this year. Retailers often use price discounts combined with promotions - such as two-for-one offers - to sell slow-moving items and make room for newer products. A dozen suppliers confirmed to Reuters in May that Target has demanded they take on more of the costs of marketing and selling slow-moving items, from candy to electronics. (Reuters)

AU: Coles refuses to boost casual workers’ pay

Sainsbury CFO to replace Home Retail CEO Walden

J Sainsbury Plc said CFO John Rogers will replace Home Retail Group Plc CEO John Walden, who will step down pending completion of the acquisition and possibly look for a role that will bring him back home to the U.S. The purchase should be concluded in the third quarter, Sainsbury said in a statement Friday. The U.K. grocer is paying 1.4bn pounds ($2bn) for the owner of the Argos chain to bolster its online distribution and convenience offering. Save Mart to close distribution center
Save Mart Supermarkets said Thursday it plans to close one of its three corporate distribution centers in the fall and consolidate dry groceries into a facility it jointly owns with Raley’s Supermarkets. The warehouse set for closure is an 850,000-square-foot dry grocery facility in Vacaville, Calif. — one of two distribution centers Save Mart acquired in 2007 when it purchased 132 Albertsons stores in Northern California and Northern Nevada.
