Vegobel, known for the cultivation and sale of fresh herbs in pots, now offers something new. “We now also supply edible flowers,” Steven Lauwers of Vegobel says. Edible flowers are no longer an unknown product, but they are not supplied directly to consumers yet. “Because we supply the flowers in pots, they are more accessible to consumers. Additionally, plants have the advantage of having a longer shelf life and nicer presentation,” Lauwers lists the benefits. “Upon purchasing in shops, the edible flowers are ready to be consumed. Prices are in line with the other herbs.”
Different colours and flavours
Currently Vegobel offers several colours of violets, ramson and lavender. “The edible violets will be supplied year-round. Ramson will only be available for a few weeks, around this time of year. Soon the edible lavender will blossom.” Every flower has a specific flavour. “Lavender tastes and smells delicious, just as we are used to from lavender. Ramson has a very spicy garlic flavour, and violets taste very soft and are especially decorative. These are available in several gradations such as yellow, orange, purple and different colours in the flowers themselves.”
Through BelOrta
Vegobel is responsible for the cultivation of all of their own products. “The area is still modest now, but we can already supply enough. Our range is marketed through Auction BelOrta. We noticed that customers have already shown an interest in this new product. Now it is time for the consumers as well.” For more information:
