Supervalu sales fall 10% in Q4
Supervalu reported $3.9 billion in sales for the quarter ended Feb. 27, down 10 percent compared to the same quarter last year, which was one week longer. Same-store retail sales were down 3.9%, with a 2.2 percent same-store drop across Supervalu's low-cost Save-A-Lot brand, which totaled $1 billion in sales. The wholesale unit's $1.74 billion in sales were down about 5 percent, "primarily due to lost accounts and lower sales to existing customers," Supervalu said in a news release.

Delhaize sees near four-fold rise in profit
Belgian food retailer Delhaize Group reported Wednesday a near four-fold rise in first-quarter net profit after booking lower finance costs, and said it intends to increase its revenue and market share while continuing to generate a solid level of free cash flow. For the quarter ended March 31, Delhaize's net profit totaled 109 million Euro ($123 million), compared with EUR28 million a year earlier. Revenue rose to EUR6.15 billion from EUR5.82 billion. Asda shamed by competition watchdogs 
Asda has agreed to change its price promotions such as multi-buy deals after the competition watchdog singled it out during an investigation into supermarket pricing tactics. The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) announced it had asked a number of supermarkets to review their promotions in response to a super-complaint by Which? accusing supermarkets of ripping off consumers with misleading and confusing prices. Aldi widens Southern California expansion

Walmart's phasing out 'Price First' in private label revamp
Wild Oats isn't the only brand disappearing from the shelves at Walmart Stores. Lidl Bulgaria faces fine for misleading advertisement 
The Commission for Protection of Competition (KZK) established that Lidl Bulgaria had committed an offence through a misleading advertising campaign. As a result, KZK imposed a sanction on Lidl amounting to nearly BGN 1.9 M, which represents 0.35 % of the company's turnover for the previous financial year. (novinite.com)
