Rootstock DRO141TX takes hold in tomato and eggplant market

In 2013 De Ruiter launched its DRO141TX rootstock. Traditionally, it always takes a while for growers and plant propagators to widely switch to a new rootstock. But now, in 2016, more and more proffesionals are taking advantages of the new rootstock.

DRO141TX was tested extensively in 2011 and 2012. De Ruiter collected a wealth of data on this rootstock and then concluded that rootstock DR0141TX is strongly generative and meets the characteristics that both growers and plant breeders are looking for. After that, the decision was quickly made: DRO141TX could go conquer the market.

Recognition for DRO141TX
In the three years that have elapsed the quality of DRO141TX is being recognized by growers. DRO141TX excels in uniform germination, strong generativity and more LAI. Other advantages of this rootstock are also being confirmed for the standard varieties from all the segments, like easier shoot formation with an additional header and the best capacity to have a maximum number of stems per plant.

Powerful for tomato
In addition, growers see longer truss length - so more fruits per truss - with loose tomatoes, less susceptibility to swelling cracks, more LAI at the end of cultivation and mainly dark green leaves with improved assimilation potential. DR0141TX is currently being used by growers for various cultivation strategies. For several open plant types this rootstock has been an immediate solution.

With DR0141TX De Ruiter advises a generative steering line at the start of cultivation. This way, the plant is set well to begin with and plant endurance is optimized.

Rootstock for eggplant
De Ruiter is seeing a large increase in the grafting of different tomato varieties under glass on DRO141TX. This year apparently the interest of eggplant growers is also increasing because of proven success on this rootstock.
