Australia: Innovation experts enlighten delegates at veg grower seminar

The speaker line-up for the 2016 Global Innovations in Horticulture Seminar has been finalised, with innovation experts set to make their way to the Gold Coast to inform Australian vegetable growers about the benefits that new and improved agricultural technology can have on their farms.

Headlining the speaker list for the event, which will be held at RACV Royal Pines on Thursday 23 June, is Emmy award-winning journalist and founder of the Genetic Literacy Project, Jon Entine, who will educate Australian vegetable growers about genetic modification in horticulture.

Joining Mr Entine will be fellow Americans Dr Fred Ziari, an expert on precision irrigation technologies and Professor Emeritus of Agricultural Economics from the University of Idaho, Dr Joe Guenthner, as well as a range of speakers from the Netherlands, Germany, New Zealand and Australia.

“AUSVEG is excited to host the world’s leading agricultural R&D experts to show Aussie growers the most innovative technology and production methods from around the world that can boost the profitability, productivity and sustainability of their operations,” said AUSVEG spokesperson Shaun Lindhe.

“Growers will be informed about the latest developments on a wide range of topics, including genetic modification, precision agriculture, robotic technology, processing machinery and plant breeding.”

“Australian agriculture is constantly evolving and moving towards more innovative and automated production practices in an effort to keep up with its international counterparts. AUSVEG is pleased to showcase new technology developments through the Global Innovations in Horticulture Seminar so growers can strengthen their reputation as global leaders in horticulture production.”

“Delegates from some of Australia’s largest vegetable growing operations have registered interest, making it one of AUSVEG’s most talked about seminars to date. It is an integral part of the Australian agriculture calendar, and a must see for those looking to get an insight into the future of the industry,” said Mr Lindhe.

“With many widely respected speakers to present on different facets of horticulture, this is shaping up to be a hugely beneficial seminar that will help growers improve their businesses for many years to come.”
