Canada: Energy cost reduction incentives available at Hydro One

For many greenhouses one of the largest expenses is the cost of energy. Knowing this, Hydro One wants to work with them to identify potential savings and help growers to apply for incentives that can pay up to 50% of upgrade costs.

According to Hydro One, growers who join the incentives that they offer, may be eligible for incentives that cover up to 50% of project costs. For example, with the Retrofit Program they can get up to 50% for energy-efficient upgrades, and with the High Performance New Construction incentive, growers can receive more than $9,000 in incentives.

Watch the video above to see how grower Bob Mitchell from Suntech Greenhouses in Manotick, Ontario has benefitted from this program. SunTech qualified for a Retrofit Program incentive, and switching to LED lights has allowed them to use approximately one third of the energy compared to more traditional high-pressure sodium (HPS) lighting.
