Europe: Second GEM training course considered

The EU Guidance document on covered crops came into force December 1st 2015. In this guidance the use of an emission model for greenhouses is described. The Dutch registration authority Ctgb implements the new guidance on covered crops (EU) per 1st of March 2016 as well as the Greenhouse Emission Model with additional exposure scenarios.

Alterra-Wageningen UR, Wageningen UR Greenhouse Horticulture, Ctgb and RIVM organized a GEM training course on the backgrounds and use of the Greenhouse Emission Model on February 16 en 17.

The training explained and provided background information on the Greenhouse Emission Model. Experts and scientists from Alterra-Wageningen UR, Wageningen UR Greenhouse Horticulture, Ctgb and RIVM guided the participants through the use of GEM, and lectured on a.o. EU Guidance on covered crops, greenhouse horticulture practices in the Netherlands, Dutch greenhouse scenarios and future developments. This training was of interest to environmental risk assessors from industry, registration authorities and consultants.

If there is more interest in taking this training, Alterra-Wageningen UR, Wageningen UR Greenhouse Horticulture, Ctgb and RIVM will consider organizing a second GEM training course in October/November 2016.

The fee of the GEM training course is €995 per participant. The fee includes: course attendance, hand-outs in hard-copy, coffee, refreshments, dinner and lunch (2nd day). Attendants are requested to bring their own laptop on which GEM is pre-installed. Overnight stay is not included; participants are requested to make their own arrangements, however discount will be given by hotel de Wageningsche Berg for attendants of the training.
