UK: Strawberry Delizzimo most preferred at The Chefs' Forum in London

This week Holland Strawberry House carried out a strawberry flavour assessment at The Chefs' Forum in London. Top chefs, hospitality students and suppliers of gastronomy elected strawberry Delizzimo® as the most flavourful.

Last December Alexandra Duncan of The Chefs' Forum participated with candidate-cooks from Westminster Kingsway College in a strawberry flavour assessment in Holland. This is where she came acquainted with strawberry Delizzimo® of Holland Strawberry House. Alexandra was surprised by the aromatic, sun-ripened flavour provided by the Delizzimo® strawberry in winter time. Also, UK Master Chef-cook Franck Pontais praised Delizzimo®. On Twitter, he writes: ‘Best strawberry I ever tasted by far, give it a go!’



Alexandra decided that The Chefs' Forum in London, a network organization for top chefs, hospitality students and suppliers, would be the perfect location for a UK flavour assessment with strawberry Delizzimo®. On January 25th, 70 participants were asked to taste three varieties of strawberry and review these strawberry varieties on several characteristics. Strawberry Delizzimo® was compared with Sonata from a Dutch glasshouse and with an imported variety from Maroc, Fortuna.

Delizzimo® received the highest overall score of 6.6, followed by Sonata with a score of 6.4 and Fortuna with a score of 4.6. Delizzimo® strawberry was praised for its beautiful presentation and delicious bite. Strawberry Delizzimo® also scored significantly better on the magnificent red external fruit color.

Delizzimo® is a strawberry which can be produced during winter time in a greenhouse. Contrary to current breeds this variety is propagated from seed. With these disease free seedlings the grower has better possibilities for a clean production. Now British growers have a good opportunity to provide British gastronomy in winter time with strawberry Delizzimo® as a local specialty.

Next week strawberry Delizzimo® will be presented in Berlin. From February 3-5th between 01:00-03:00 pm you are invited to taste Delizzimo® in its pure form or prepared in a dish by Master Chef Gary Loon at the Fruit Logistica, Hall 3.2, booth C-26.
