The largest organic greenhouse in Scandinavia is ideally situated on Zealand, allowing easy highway access to the large Danish and Swedish markets.
Beautifully and logistically ideally situated minutes away from large forests, the sandy beaches of the bay of Koege and the cosy market and harbor town Koege, and only a few miles from Zealand’s largest highway intersection, lies Scandinavia’s largest organic greenhouse Bladgrønt. The company is one of the best known brands in Scandinavia, when it comes to organic and specialty lettuces, along with a very modern and foresighted approach to production and packaging optimization.
50,000 square meters of modern state-of-the-art greenhouse is the visible result of Danish greenhouse gardener Gert Larsen’s dedicated work since 1976. The label of Bladgrønt along with the production environment, have for many years been synonymous with a range of developments in production methods and especially in terms of the products offered to leading Danish and Scandinavian green grocers, super market chains and the consumers. Gert Larsen has always had a great awareness of what the market wants, and Bladgrønt has been the forerunners of introducing a series of now very well-known specialty lettuces such as Frillice, Romaine, Baby Leaves, Lollo Bionda and Rosso etc. For a number of years Bladgrønt has been the largest Danish supplier of greenhouse lettuce, shipping more than 3 mill. heads of lettuce to the consumers each year.
The entire production line all the way from seeds to harvesting, cooling and shipping the lettuces, has been developed and perfected over the years in order to optimize the production outcome and at the same time, minimizing the environmental footprint of Bladgrønt. The watering system is 100 percent based on rainwater harvesting and reusing the cleaned water. The system applies to Danish legislation on the cleanliness of watering systems. In 2007 the greenhouse was turned into a 100 percent ecological production and from the same time all fertilizer media have been vegetabilic. In 2013 the production was terminated.
Despite the closure, the production facilities, as well as all authority approvals and certificates on ecology have been kept up-to-date by Gert Larsen. Retirement plans and the wish to spend more time with his family has left the 66-year-old gardener looking for interested buyers wanting to establish themselves with a ready-to-open greenhouse production close to Scandinavian consumers. There is a growing demand in Scandinavia for high quality organic products locally grown, and the outlet possibilities in Denmark as well as Sweden are good.
Gert Larsen offers counselling and advice along with in depth information on the local markets and supply chains to interested parties.
