Driscolls: Raspberries proven heart smart

A recent Harvard study shows that adding just a few berries to your meal, may help to reduce heart attack risk.

More than 93.000 women of various ages were followed by a team of American researchers. Every four years they had to fill in a questionnaire about their diet and eating habits. After 18 years the experts discovered that no less than 32% of the women, who ate berries on a daily base, significantly reduced the chance of having a heart attack. The good news continues, as scientists believe it is very likely that men also benefit from this hearth-friendly fruit.

The secret of these delicate berries lies in their large dose of fibres, Vitamin C and manganese. Aedin Cassidy, study leader, explains: “Berries are one of the best sources of these powerful nutrients, as these substances are already natural present in red and blue coloured fruits.” According to the study, participants who enjoyed at least three servings of berries a week saw the most benefits.

Driscoll’s raspberries are available all year round and carry the trusted heart check mark of the American Heart Association.
