Using the energy from cogen exhaust gases

With the help of federal grants, five greenhouse companies in Bergschenhoek have been outfitted with new heat pumps. In short, they get extra heat from the exhaust gases of their cogeneration plant. Using a heat pump, water is heated from 35 to around 55 degrees. That heat is then distributed into the greenhouse.

Stimulant

Thanks to the heat pumps, more energy than normal can be extracted from a cubic meter of gas. The growers received a grant for the heat pumps, as the Dutch horticulture sector has the objective to reduce energy consumption by 2.5% annually.
