AU: Melon conference with a difference
Following the success of the on-farm conference in Bundaberg in 2013, the next national melon industry gathering will held on the property of John and Melisa Hederics at Trentham Cliffs, near Mildura.
“This will be a conference with a difference,” said AMA Chairman Mark Daunt. “We're bringing together growers, researchers and supply chain representatives from across the industry for a two day on-farm event,” he said.
With the outbreak of Cucumber Green Mottle Mosaic Virus in Northern Territory and Queensland, the conference is an opportunity for growers and industry representatives to meet and discuss the challenges that face the industry.
Due to the increased level of farm biosecurity since CGMMV was discovered, this Conference provides a rare opportunity to assess new varieties up close. “We just want to give growers the chance to evaluate varieties, look at new technologies and discuss how they can continue to farm in a profitable way,” he said.
The conference will also feature presentations on topics such as melon pathology, agronomy, varieties, pest control, the latest technologies and melon exports.
The conference has already attracted strong interest from exhibitors, but the AMA said more are welcome.
It won't be all work and no play for delegates at the Conference & Field Days with an industry and a district tour that includes wineries.
The Australian Melon Industry Conference & Field Days will be held in Mildura from 16 – 18 March 2016.
