US: RainSoil launches water-retention product nationally as drought spreads

In the Spring of 2015, as California imposed unprecedented water-use restrictions on its cities and farms. The snowpack in the Sierra Nevada mountains measured zero for the first time since records have been kept, the New York Times reported that “the country is in the midst of one of its most sustained periods of increasing drought.”

In response to the potentially devastating effects of these current drought conditions, the makers of RainSoil have released a revolutionary new growing medium designed specifically to provide vital nutrients and significant water savings for commercial growers. According to RainSoil’s Marketing Manager, Trent Whatcott, “We developed RainSoil from the ground up. It was our goal to create a product that would maximize both water retention and soil nutrition. We used the highest quality all natural ingredients, because we wanted to provide commercial growers with a solution that not only produced immediate benefits, but that also would allow them to sustain those improved results for years to come.”

RainSoil retains exceptional amounts of water because of its essential ingredient, known as “coir,” which comes from the inner husk of the coconut. RainSoil sustains environmentally sensitive growing, harvesting, and processing practices in the coconut coir industry by repurposing this common, but often discarded fiber that has been found to hold up to six times its weight in water while slowly releasing that moisture directly to the roots of plants.

RainSoil reclaims sub-standard soils with its infusion of naturally occurring microbes and an impressive array of mineral deposits found in the kind of loam that is ideal for growing. Once the soil is disinfected and balanced, RainSoil revitalizes plants with a nutrient boost that has proven to significantly increase growth and yields over conventional amendments and fertilizers.

RainSoil’s significant water retention and remediation potential have been proven under some of the most difficult growing conditions, including Las Vegas, Nevada, where expert grower, Marilyn Yamamoto, owner of Cowboy Trail Farms in Las Vegas gave the product one of its toughest field tests last year. In order to grow plant life in the dessert, it is necessary to amend with soil or nothing will grow. Before using RainSoil, Marilyn purchased some soil that was supposedly healthy. Unfortunately, the sodium content was so high that her plants began to choke and die off. In a final effort to save her crops, she agreed to give RainSoil a try. When asked how well RainSoil helped remedy the situation she replied, “It was an amazing result. Within days, and I literally mean days, not weeks, not months, things just changed around and things started greening up and growing prolifically … just beautiful.” To view her story, click here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3f7yq0S69xY
