Video: Why French growers demand semi-closed structures
The brothers Vincent and Davy Clément are owners of a 3,5 ha glass tomato greenhouse at Arles in the French department of Bouches-du-Rhône. They produce cocktail and beef tomatoes that are sold through Les Paysans de Rougeline, a major player in France that has gained the top position in quality and brand.
Back in 1970, their father founded a greenhouse. After assisting their parents for 10 years, the brothers decided to start their own company in 2007. During that time, the world of horticultural technology has massively changed. Back then most work was done manually, consumed lots of time and required for the grower to be present at all times. This has shifted thanks to the intelligent automation solutions of today.
The brothers automatically control their greenhouse thanks to the ModulAIR greenhouse, built by Van der Hoeven. All climate, energy and irrigation processes in their ModulAIR greenhouse is automated by Hoogendoorn. This enables the brothers to optimize the use of energy, irrigation and CO2 and at the same time minimize the use of pesticides and increase their yields with a better quality. They now grow more and healthier tomatoes, while respecting the environment.
Vincent and Davy Clément tell all about the positive impact the ModulAIR greenhouse and the Hoogendoorn automation solution has had for their business and lives. As we speak, Clément is expanding with another 1,8 hectare ModulAIR greenhouse via HortiNed, Van der Hoeven’s partner in France.
