German nursery Steiner grows to 20 hectares

The construction of the new greenhouse at German nursery Steiner is well underway after last week’s start. With the expansion of 7.8 hectares, the company grows to nearly 20.

Growth
Two years ago, Steiner built a greenhouse of 12 hectares, which was already a remarkably large project in the southern German region. Last year, the greenhouse was connected to geothermal energy. The products, peppers and tomatoes, are sold under a regional brand in the province.

New greenhouse
Now they are ready for a new challenge: expanding both the acreage and the range. The existing greenhouse will produce solely tomatoes next year. The new addition will host both pepper and cucumber plants: a new product for the growers.

Construction must hurry, as the additional meters should be operational by the end of the year. The investment is reportedly between 12 and 13 million euros, and provides work for 40-50 people. The construction is supervised by the Dutch company Looije Agro Technics.
