UK: First British cherry tomatoes at Waitrose and M&S

In a new report from ProduceView the UK retail prices of cherry tomatoes were recorded over a period of 15 weeks. These prices are monitored at nine supermarkets in the UK, namely: Tesco, Sainsbury's, Asda, Morrisons, M&S, Waitrose, Lidl, Aldi, and Co-op. This week, the first British cherry tomatoes were available at Waitrose and M&S.

The retail prices of the cherry tomatoes are measured per kilo. This week, retail price of cherry tomatoes is between £1.90 (Aldi) and £9.00 (M&S) per kilo. The average price is £3.22 per kilo which is forced up by the £9.00 retail price of M&S. This week and last week, the cherry tomatoes were on promotion at Tesco (£2.00) and Lidl (£2.20).

In general, the cherry tomatoes are supplied from Morocco and Spain. This week, however, Waitrose and M&S supply their first British cherry tomatoes in 17 weeks.
