"Netherlands: "Solutions for crazy roots necessary and feasible"
Causes
A grower can - sometimes quite unexpectedly - have to deal with excessive root growth. Excessive root growth is caused by the bacterium Rhizobium rhizogenes. This bacterium disrupts the plant's DNA so that it creates excessive roots.
Results from the past are unfortunately no guarantee for the future
"In periods when irrigation is increased - and there is more evaporation - the bacterium Rhizobium rhizogenes thrives. The recycling of drainage water also requires an additional focus. It's wise to make sure no plant stress occurs," says Eric Kerklaan (Technical Manager Crop Protection at Biopol Natural).
Symptoms include excessive root growth on the block and around the drippers, thick stems, vegetative growth and production loss. Direct actions may include; drying the roots by exposing the slab and the block, and by sticking the dripper in the mat so that the primary power source of Rhizobium is hindered.
What is the solution?
The horticultural sector is characterized by its innovative capability and will therefore have already come up with many innovations and solutions. "However, most technical and chemical solutions are simply inefficient and lead to imbalance in production. This is why we have introduced the brand Fytopro,” says Mark Hoogendoorn, also of Biopol Natural. "The long-term solution provided by the micro-biology in relation to several factors, such as maintaining biodiversity, already provides a handle for the grower."

Fytopro
Initiating and maintaining biodiversity is the foundation of the brand fytopro. Based on these two pillars, Biopol Natural provides a solution to greenhouse entrepreneurs to make the crop more vital and resilient.
The initiation of biodiversity is done with multispecies products, says Hoogendoorn. The strength of these products lies in the accumulation of various bacteria, fungi, and power supply elements so that the effectiveness is increased. In cultivation characterized by an integrated pest management, these multispecies products provide a lasting solution because the effectiveness of these products consists of the total amount of bacteria and fungi.
