Canada: Over $60,000 awarded to KPU horticulture students

Sixty-two horticulture students at Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) received over $60,000 in scholarships and awards last week at the university’s annual School of Horticulture Scholarships & Awards Celebration.

Hosted at KPU Surrey, 42 awards, many sponsored by the horticulture industry, were presented to students studying a range of subjects, including landscaping, greenhouse production, urban ecosystems and turf grass management. Each recipient was recognized for excellence and ambition across various criteria, including program achievement, community service and industry career goals.

“Part of the horticulture community that fosters excellence are the industry members and donors who give their time and funds to nurture the growth of leaders in the field of horticulture. As we celebrate our students’ successes, we also celebrate the donors for their continued support and enthusiasm for the future of horticulture,” said Dr. Elizabeth Worobec, dean of the Faculty of Science and Horticulture.

The event also provided KPU students the opportunity to connect with future employers, key industry representatives and community leaders. Close to 150 students, donors and KPU representatives attended the celebration.

The KPU Foundation builds community and corporate partnerships that benefit students, support faculty and enhance education. Each year, hundreds of thousands of dollars in scholarships and awards are given to students across disciplines. More on the KPU Foundation is available at kpu.ca/foundation.
