VDH to build high light transmission greenhouse in Guatemala
The structure of VDH's wide-span greenhouse has remarkable huge “windows” of nearly 25 m² without any light blocking construction parts. "Comparing the VDH wide-span plastic greenhouse with standard types of wide-span plastic greenhouses, this construction has a up to 4% higher light transmission", claims Ben van der Heide of VDH.
"The unique film-tension system guarantees a longer lifetime and a very easy way of installing the films. Once shown by an VDH Supervisor, the customers can easily replace the film themselves. With our tension system we are not that sensitive in case of wind and the grower can replace the film with less people", Ben van der Heide said.
The combination of the large ventilation windows and the large volume above the crops ensures a perfect growing climate inside the greenhouse. " Our opninio isthat with the 12,80 m Wide-Span - with a sufficient gutter height what is available up to 6,5 m - the perfect mixture of volume above the crops, maximum ventilation and affordable building of the greenhouse is reached. When we go wider than 12,80 m, the ventilation capacity will go down as the size windows can’t be enlarged with the width proportionally”.
The VDH wide-span greenhouses are standard suitable for high wire crops- and installation loads for gutter systems. No adaptions or reinforcements has to be made for installing screening- and/or heating installations. The wide span greenhouse can hold snow loads.
The next project with this high light transmission wide-span will be realized in Guatemala in April this year. This greenhouse will also be covered with a greenhouse that claims to have a lifetime of approx. 15 years.
