Spain: Average cucumber price did not exceed 0.46 Euro/kilo in 2014

The average price at origin of cucumbers in 2014, taking all varieties into account, was of 0.46 Euro per kilo, the second lowest in the last ten years, according to data from the Prices and Markets Observatory of Andalusia.

The average price of the last decade has been of 0.53 Euro per kilo.

The best average price during 2014 has been registered by long cucumbers (Dutch or Almeria), with 0.47 Euro per kilo, followed by the French (0.38 €/kg), and the short variety (0.37 Euro per kilo).

For all cucumber varieties, the best average price was reached in January, with 0.80 Euro per kilo, while the worst average price was obtained in May and June, with 0.21 Euro.

In January, short and Almeria cucumbers reached their highest prices, with 0.65 and 0.81 Euro per kilo, respectively. For the French variety, the best month was September, with 0.82 Euro per kilo.

Short cucumbers registered their worst price in June, with 0.16 Euro per kilo; for the Dutch variety (or Almeria), their worst month was also June, with 0.19 Euro/kg, while for the French variety the worst month was May, when it reached an average price of 0.12 Euro per kilo.

Looking at the past decade, the year with the best average price for all cucumber varieties was 2006, with 0.81 Euro per kilo, while the lowest was recorded in 2011, when the average price dropped to 0.38 Euro per kilo.
