US (TX): Private pesticide applicator training set for March 2 in Floresville

The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service in Wilson County and Texas Department of Agriculture are offering certification and recertification training for private pesticide applicators from 5:30-9:30 p.m. March 2 in Floresville.

The training will be held in Extension Meeting Room 5 of the Courthouse Annex III, 1103 4th St.

“The purpose of this training is to obtain or stay current on a private applicator license from the Texas Department of Agriculture,” said Bryan Davis, AgriLife Extension agriculture and natural resources agent for Wilson County. “This license will enable the applicator to purchase and apply state limited use and federally restricted chemicals on his land or land he has control of for agricultural commodity production.”

He said all farm and ranch operators who do not have a private applicator’s license to purchase “restricted use” pesticides, such as 2,4-D, Grazon P+D and Tordon 22K, will need to attend this training.

“There are two training manuals that can be purchased for $50 for both and are used in the class,” Davis said. “Having these manuals in advance will help you become familiar with pesticides and their use prior to attending the training.”

A $10 cost-recovery fee will be collected at the training.

Those interested in the training should contact Julie Autry at 830-393-7357 to RSVP and purchase training materials. Make checks payable to: Ag Educational Fund.
