As Illumitex meets indoor growers around the U.S. and internationally, one question they often hear is, “How far from my plants should I hang my LED grow lights?”
Growers are often aware that using LED lights makes a difference in terms of mounting heights as compared to traditional lighting. Illumitex’s focused and intense lighting requires, in general, a higher mounting distance than traditional lighting in order to supply a uniform coverage.
A number of factors enter into deciding the proper mounting height for Illumitex LED grow lights:
- What type of crop are you growing?
- What phase of growth is your crop in?
- What growing methods and environmental conditions characterize your grow (i.e. temperature, CO2 enrichment, nutrient regime)?
All of these factors impact the PPFD (photosynthetic photon flux density) required by your crop, and therefore are factors in determining how close your light should be to your plants’ canopy.
Each growing operation must be specifically and carefully evaluated in order to determine how close you should place your grow light to the plants’ canopy.
