Expanding business with cooperation:

Mexican grower Floraplant acquires two Ellepot machines

During the Expo Agroalimentaria 2014, one of the biggest ornamental growers in Mexico, Floraplant, acquired two Ellepot machines; well-known propagation plugs that makes it easier for growers to successfully propagate young plants. This was announced by Lars Peter Jensen from Blackmore, who distributes the propagation system exclusively for Ellegaard in North America, Mexico, Costa Rica and the Caribbean Isles. Together with Fiberdust growing media, the Ellepot machine makes it easy for growers to propagate and transplant young plants successfully.

The Ellepot machine injects the coco from Fiberdust in Ellepot paper and cuts the plugs at the right size in order to fit the Ellepot trays from Blackmore. Due to this enhanced process, a superior root development is possible, which will improve the quality of the crop, explains Lars.

These advantages were also recognized by the owner of Floraplant, Fidel Ochea Gomez. One of the machines that he bought was on display at the shared booth for Ellepot, Blackmore, Fiberdust and Floraplant. The companies decided to share the booth in connection with a recent cooperation between the two companies.

“Nowadays, distributors are the norm here in Mexico. So, if the growers have any issues, we are somewhat removed from the issues or the customer. Therefore we started this cooperation. Blackmore-EllepotUSA and Fiberdust offer the technical supplies and Floraplant has the knowledge in regards to growing the actual crop," says Lars. "Therefore, they can assist the new and existing growers in Mexico and enables Blackmore-EllepotUSA and Fiberdust to expand their business in Mexico selling the high quality and extra washed coir from Fiberdust together with the Blackmore trays, Blackmore seeders &Ellepot machines."

According to Lars, the Ellepot machine will fit perfectly in the Mexican market due to low labor costs along with the increase in demand for high quality products. The critical aspects of the propagation process are automated and the remaining work can be done manually, explains Lars.

Even though the Seeders and Ellepot machine makes use of an old well known technology, it is still quite new to Mexican growers. "Therefore, the growers need to become comfortable with our products and service", says Lars. In order to fulfill this duty, a Mexican representative has been hired to become the face of the new interesting business setup in Mexico. He will visit different growers and will explain the functions and benefits of the product. "He will also support us to reach other goals like entering the agricultural market in Mexico", says Lars.
