EU funding to develop agriculture apps

The SmartAgrifood project is to receive 4 million Euro for the development of agricultural apps. Developers and users can submit their proposals until 15 November.

The Smart Agrifood project, coordinated by Wageningen UR, is part of the European Future Internet Public-Private Partnership program (FI-PPP), intended to boost the development and application of Internet technology in Europe.

Apps for agriculture and horticulture
The SmartAgrifood project focuses specifically on developing apps for agriculture and horticulture. As part of the project, 4 million Euro is now made available. For each project a grant of up to 100,000 Euro will be given to developers for building, testing and distributing the apps.

Fiware
The apps must be built using Fiware, an open programming system that enables applications to be used via the cloud. The apps will be accessible through the specially designed platform FISpace. Developers and users of apps can submit proposals until November 15, 2014, or even start building a prototype via www.smartagrifood.com.
