Marijke Heijens, 2Go4Career:

"Demand for horticulture staff increasingly international"

At 2GoCareer everything is about people. Besides placing those seeking employment and filling in vacancies the company also takes care of countless training sessions, assessments and job suitability tests. With a background in horticulture - her husband Gilbert Heijens is a cultivation advisor - the company is very active in the sector. "But whether you are selling apples and pears, are a nurse or grow tomatoes, training to further your career is always useful!"

"You can have a lovely cover letter, but you can't hire someone based on a first glance. This is why there is a lot of demand for our job suitability test which are available in ten languages. Horticulture is also becoming more international. We have recently places multiple Dutch people with a cultivation background in Australia, for periods of one or two years. People are looking for good employees there and are willing to invest in it," says Marijke.

She states that it is an advantage that 2Go4Career is active in multiple sectors. "Let's be honest, there are a lot of people in the Dutch horticulture with financial difficulties. I believe that an investment in training produces results, but I understand that you can't tax people who are struggling. Some training is quite expensive and if the boss isn't paying for it, it isn't an option for some employees. Our advantage is that we can provide the training both 'in company' and personally throughout the fruit and vegetable sector."

Marijke knows how to find both employers with vacancies and employees seeking them. "At the moment the demand from the employers is the highest. We have developed a large network over the years and can enter a course of guidance as soon as there are too many people in a company. Due to our activities abroad we attract very diverse business. We don't mind what sectors we work for. In reality all managers deal with the same things."
