Turkish breeder Yüksel introduces hybrid greenhouse varieties worldwide
Yuksel is the largest seed breeder that is 100% owned by Turkish entrepreneurs, and the company is proud of this. Yildiz: "Off course the worldwide seed industry is being dominated by Dutch companies, along with Israeli companies. These countries are playing a leading role in our industry and we highly respect all of their pioneering work. We however wanted to develop our own varieties and breeding programs without the direct need of foreign investments."
"After many years of intensive research we have succeeded to develop a wide range of vegetable varieties in seven product categories" Yildiz said. "After introducing several of these varieties in our domestic market we notice that they were received very well among Turkish growers. Foreign companies also noticed our intensive breeding program and became interested. Nowadays we are already present in 55 countries on more than 650 hectare."
Besides the five locations for R&D in Turkey, the company also has branch offices in The Netherlands and Jordan. But there are more ambitions for Yuksel: According to Yildiz, the North American and South American greenhouse industry will be an important target market for Yuksel. "We have many ambitions that are overseas and we would like to increase our presence in these territories. We already have done many R&D on our breeding programs for the greenhouse industry in the U.S. and Canada and we look forward to increasing our presence in this market.
