UK: Soil sterilisation study tour to Italy

HDC levy paying growers of hardy nursery stock and cut flowers must register their interest for a September soil sterilisation study tour in Italy by Thursday 21 August.

HDC, in conjunction with Dove Associates, has organised the three day event from Wednesday 10 September to Friday 12 September to the Albenga region of Italy and will look at all aspects of soil sterilisation.

The tour will take in the CeRSAA Research Station to look at their trials on soil fumigation, looking at the fumigants being investigated, the tools used to apply them and application strategies. This will be followed by a visit to Forigo Roter Italia who specialise in fumigation equipment. The tour will also include visits to local growers to look at current practices and machinery.

The HDC has obtained RDPE funding to support the costs of the tour for levy payers and as such will fund the organisational costs of the trip whilst the RDPE funding will cover 70% of attendees’ flights, accommodation and internal transport costs. Attendees will have to cover their meal costs and insurance.

If you are interested in attending this study tour, are an HDC levy payer but not a grower of hardy nursery stock or cut flowers, then you may still be able to attend this study tour. Please register your interest by the deadline of August 21st 2014 and we will endeavour to accommodate you.

Once numbers have been confirmed, the HDC will flights and accommodation will be arranged. Attendees will be invoiced for the 30% of costs once the study tour has been completed. The total cost of the trip is likely to be around £200-300 per person recognising that the tour is being arranged at short notice and during the high season which may impact on flight and hotel costs.
