Van der Hoeven, MWM Nederland install four CHPs for Greece greenhouse

In 2011 Van der Hoeven completed and delivered an 11-hectare turn-key project in Petrousa, Northern Greece. It is now three years later and the project is running smoothly. To further enhance the exploitation, particularly with a view to saving energy, Wonderplant has decided to place a number of CHP systems.

Last November MWM Nederland installed 4 CHPs of 2.2 MW each and an associated chiller of 5 MW. Van der Hoeven installed this system and put it into effective service. This system was designed for the generation of electricity for the company’s own needs and for delivering electricity back to the public grid. The Co2 produced by the engines is transported through a flue gas cleaner, where it is transferred to the greenhouse in a controlled manner.

The heat produced by the engines is integrated into the existing heating system. This is a rather unique project for the Greek market, because CHP systems in greenhouse horticulture are not something that is taken for granted.
