Brightest greenhouse to date:

US: Harnois introduces northern version of Luminosa

Harnois Greenhouses introduces the newly designed Luminosa Series 8 & 9. This new greenhouse is the beefed up, northern version of the popular Luminosa, with over 500 acres sold across the world, in warm, tropical climates.

This northern version offers the same benefits that have made the original Luminosa the preferred greenhouse of top growers, such as amazing light levels, superior stability in climate control and improved yields, now with reliable snow load capacity.

Harnois' Robert Hotte and Robert Chave at Cultivate '14 this week in Columbus, Ohio.

Engineering for agronomical efficiency

The secret of the Luminosa lies in smart engineering that makes innovative use of innovative steel tubing combined with years of agronomical experience and growers’ feedback. The result is a greenhouse that is brighter than the comparable model, with a lighter steel structure that concedes nothing to competitors in terms of strength and durability.

Several benefits for the grower

The Luminosa Series 8 & 9 has much to offer to the demanding grower, who needs greenhouse structures that are big on performance and reliability.
  • Amazing, diffused light levels;
  • Superior air volume helps to create a more stable climate at plant level;
  • Very competitive pricing;
  • Improved condensation control and easier poly installation over the roof;
  • The columns feature a unique, two-part design, where the bottom of the post is expanded to snugly overlap the anchor for a truly strong fit;
  • A redesigned gutter for greater luminosity and energy efficiency.
The original Luminosa, now designated under the Series 11 and 14 brand names, is already used by major growers who are established in warmer climates around the world. “Growers in Canada and northern United States were requesting the Luminosa. Many of them read about or visited with renowned Mexican and European greenhouse operations, where they saw firsthand the benefits of this greenhouse,” says Yanick Harnois, Executive Vice President for Harnois Greenhouse Division.

However, the Luminosa had been designed specifically for warm climates, to enhance light levels and provide strong wind load capacity. It was not designed to handle snow loads and strong greenhouses typically feature heavy steel structures, which comes at a price in terms of light. "It is very common to have northern growers evaluate the strength of a greenhouse by its weight in steel. Yet, this can be a poor indicator of how strong a greenhouse can be" indicates Yanick Harnois.

Harnois’ engineers took to this challenge of preserving the exceptional agronomical qualities of the original Luminosa while making it strong enough to withstand Canadian winters. “We gave them the task to make it as strong as our well-named Nordique model. They surprised us with a greenhouse that’s even stronger, at a comparable price per square feet. With the Series 8 & 9, growers in colder and temperate climates can now benefit from the remarkable characteristics of the Luminosa” concludes Harnois.
