Winners announced for 2014 Greenhouse Grower Head Grower and Operation of the Year awards

BASF and Greenhouse Grower magazine have announced the 2014 winners of their annual awards program.

Henry Mast Greenhouses/Masterpiece Flower Company, LLC, of Byron Center, Michigan, was named Greenhouse Grower’s Operation of the Year; and Ivan Tchakarov, Director of Growing for Metrolina Greenhouses headquartered in Huntersville, North Carolina, was honoured as Greenhouse Grower’s Head Grower of the Year. The winners of both BASF-sponsored awards were recognized during the July 14 Evening of Excellence reception at Cultivate’14 – formerly OFA Short Course – in Columbus, Ohio.

“It’s a privilege to honour the hard work and contributions of Henry Mast Greenhouses/Masterpiece Flower Company and Ivan Tchakarov,” said Joe Lara, Senior Product Manager, BASF. “Congratulations to all of the 2014 finalists and the countless others who work tirelessly day in and day out to help this industry flourish. Their energy and spirit of progress are contagious.”

The peer-nominated awards recognize industry operations and head growers embracing and exemplifying modern, high-quality growing practices, innovative marketing, strong customer services, and community and industry leadership.

The head grower must also demonstrate the ability to lead, motivate and mentor staff, and make valuable contributions to the operation’s management team.
