Construction on the Schuylkill Haven Area School District’s greenhouse has wrapped up, officials said at a school board meeting Wednesday. Director of maintenance Kenneth Albitz said the only work left to do is putting in a sidewalk with handicapped curb cutouts, as well as several raised garden beds outside.
Some parents that own a farm are going to help us with the outdoor beds,” Superintendent Shawn Fitzpatrick said.
The greenhouse, funded by a $204,000 state grant, will enable the district to expand its agriculture and horticulture offerings. Also, at the meeting Wednesday, the board approved the appointment of Tara Lutz as middle school principal.
She currently serves as principal of ELCO Middle School in Myerstown and will take up her new post at Schuylkill Haven on April 22.
